According to Rajesh Banga of Eros International, Heer Ranjha which is the biggest Punjabi film is going to release in Punjab and worldwide on 13th Nov 2009. Harbhajan Maan and Neeru Bajwa starring Heer Ranjha is directed by Harjit Singh and Ksshitij Chaudhary and produced by Harbhajan Mann, Apinder Grewal and Gulzar Inder Chahal.

Ranjha, a flute playing ‘man-mauji’ who looks at life with a twinkle in his eye and a smile on his face, is shattered after the death of his loving father. He leaves his home in ‘Takht Hazaara’ after being disillusioned with the behavior of his family and wanders about aimlessly into the unknown world. However, his wandering feet and heart are arrested by just one glimpse of the mesmerizingly beautiful ‘Heer’ from ‘Jhang Siyaal’. Love blossoms and the two souls are soon pledged to each other for all eternity. However, the bitter ‘Kaidon’ and the wily ‘Qaazis’ conspire to separate the two lovers and Heer is forcibly married off to ‘Saidaa’ of ‘Rangpur Kherra’. A disconsolate Ranjha renounces the world and wanders around in search of Heer. The two lovers meet again only to be dealt a cruel blow by fate once again. Ultimately the two lovers meet a tragic end but their story doesn’t end with their deaths. It grows into a legend instead. Every time a ‘ghabroo’ sighs in love just as Ranjha must have centuries ago, and every time a ‘mutiyaar’ feels the tars of Heer flow from her own eyes, we know that the story of Heer Ranjha has lived on in the heart of every man who has known and experienced love.

Heer Ranjha, the film, tries to recreate the legend of the two lovers with utmost sincerity and historical accuracy. The best of technicians and artists form around the world have come together on this film with a common goal – the most authentic and lavish retelling of the story of Heer Ranjha. The dialogues have been beautifully crafted to express every emotion and every nuance that plays out in the story. The soulful music covers the entire melody of the story – right from the first note of the Ranjha’s flute as it wafted across the night air and whispered a promise into Heer’s ear, and up to the last painful note of the lovers’ last sigh. A lot of research work has been invested into creating the Punjab of those times. Authentic costumes, architecture and characters from centuries ago have been recreated so that the audience can be transported back to a time, centuries ago, when these two star crossed lovers walked the same earth that we tread upon today. Owing to the hard work that has been put into the making of Heer Ranjha, the team behind the film is sure that the audience will be able to have the soul stirring experience of actually touching the essence of Heer Ranjha in its purest form and will surely come back for more.

‘TUM MILE’ PAINTINGS UNVEILED AT AN ART EXHIBITION

The paintings were specially created for and used in the film

It would be quite surprising for some to find actors, directors and producers promoting their film in an art gallery – but not when your lead actor plays a role of an artist.

The cast & crew of Tum Mile was present at Sanjay Wadhwa’s Tulika Arts Gallery for an exhibition which showcased the paintings – created by artist Saillesh Acharekar - which were created and used specially for Tum Mile. In the movie – Emraan plays the role of an artist – these paintings were showcased in the film as part of his work. Tum Mile is scheduled to storm the theatres all across on 13th November, 09.

Mahesh Bhatt, Emraan Hashmi, Soha Ali Khan and director Kunal Deshmukh graced the elite event. Mahesh Bhatt said, “An art exhibition is a very unusual place when it comes to promoting a film – but in case of Tum Mile, these paintings are an integral part of the film. At critical points in the story, these paintings portray what Emraan’s character is feeling. The magic lies in the way Kunal and Saillesh have captured the essence of the character in these paintings…when you see the film, you will see it actually looks like a painting created by Emraan’s character at that point!”

Agrees Emraan Hashmi, “These paintings are not only beautiful, but capture and convey my character’s feelings through out the film. I also need to thank Saillesh for showing me the nuances of an artist's body language – especially his hands – when he’s painting. Little things like this give a lot of depth and authenticity to a character one plays.”

The highlight of the exhibition was a 3-D painting – with ‘Tum Mile’ as a theme - created by Saillesh Acharekar. In a 3-D painting, the image changes when a viewer changes its perspective – for eg when one sees an image from the left, keeps seeing it and moves to the right, the image changes. “Very few artists get a chance wherein their work is showcased on a scale as prestigious and huge as this. The least I could do to thank Kunal for this opportunity is create something special and memorable. I believe this is the first 3-D painting in India created around a film theme”, says Saillesh.

The proprietor of Tulika Arts Gallery, Mr. Sanjay Wadhwa said, “It’s a privilege that we can simultaneously associate with a film as prestigious as Tum Mile, and an artist as talented as Saillesh. It’s very encouraging to know that people now are being exposed to art – deemed as niche – through more popular media like films. It just gives a whole new dimension to this industry.”

An excited Soha Ali Khan, who was captured in various moods across many paintings in the exhibition, says, “It’s a pleasure and a privilege to be a part of such beautiful paintings. I would like to thank and congratulate Kunal and Saillesh for so beautifully capturing my mood and expressions. It’s truly a special moment for me – as these paintings are indeed a unique way for remembering Tum Mile, and me with it.”

The beautiful paintings made a stunning backdrop as the stars interacted with press, and people were mesmerized by these striking works of art.
